Matthew Bailey, Musical Director

Matt spent his formative years in Wardle, Rochdale and learned to play at the famous Wardle High School.  He was Principle Euphonium for the multi-championship winning band of 1995 and progressed to be Principle Euphonium of Wardle Anderson Band, playing at the National Finals in Torquay in 2002.  Following this he has again played at the National Finals, and depped for many local bands.

Matt started conducting at the age of 22 and learned from some of the very best, including Richard Evans.  Matt's first band was the Littleborough Public Band, were he conducted for six years.  Over that time the band grew in number from eight to twenty four, renovated their band room, fundraised for new instruments and became active on the contesting scene for the first time in fifteen years.

As a conductor he is very pro-active, and focuses on band members positives while encouraging them to "be great, not good".  The rehearsal room is a friendly place with Matt in front of the band and expects everyone to listen, work hard and do the very best they can.

Matt is keen for his band to get the fundamentals right.  Note lengths, rhythm, intonation and timing are all a key to the band's progress and with these in place Radcliffe Band is able to tackle more and more adventurous programs and perform quality concerts with that "wow" factor.

Matt lives in Radcliffe and works in Manchester.  He supports Oldham Athletic Football Club, enjoys rock music and spending time with his family.
